Why TwoShot?

Dick Garn had learned a lot about golf over the years. Plus, he had developed and run (for 17 years) the World’s Largest Golf Tournament, The Oldsmobile Scramble. Dick was like most of us – if he hit a good drive, it went about 225 yards. He often played with friends that out hit him by 40 to 100 yards. One day Dick thought, “What would happen if we took the “drive” out of the game just once in a while?” He figured he could find out how he would do against those “long hitters!”

Dick was inspired to create the TwoShotGolf tournament and arranged for his local golf course to set up for TwoShot. He said “It was really very simple; we just made all the holes from 50 to 250 yards in length.” Over time, the format became a 2-person team event and an exciting scoring system was added and the fun began. Dick said he really loved the fun of hitting all of his approach shots from the same place as the “flat belly kids.”

More benefits from TwoShot remove most of the “negatives” from this golf tournament that happen with most national golf tournaments that are out there or have been attempted and failed.- By removing the “drive”, the tournament gives more golfers a feeling that they have a chance to win, as they can hit shorter shots to the green. - By eliminating the drive, you don’t have to spend time searching for the lost drive in the woods and the extra time of hitting the drive in the first place – therefore speeding up the game to an average of 3 hours for 18 holes (versus 4½ to 6 hours). Just go right to your approach shot! - TwoShot makes it easier to have teeing lengths the appropriate and fairer length for all participants - as you can put the tees anywhere. - By having 2-person teams, you still get the camaraderie of a teammate without having to arrange to get 4 people together for your game (Don’t you find it is hard to get 4 people together to do anything?) – much less get everyone to communicate about the game, get there on time, and then finally play.

The scoring format makes for “target golf” that the average golfer can relate to. We have 3 targets of (1) the whole green, (2) a 3 foot “circle” (every team gets a yardstick) and (3) the hole itself. On almost every shot, you can attain a target and score points. Exciting! - Participants can qualify for the “Prize pool” on every hole! In most tournaments, if you start out scoring poorly, you can be demoralized and ready to quit after the first nine. In TwoShot, if you hit one of your team’s first shots inside of 3 feet of the cup, you automatically qualify for the “Prize pool”, even if it is on the last hole you play! Think of the excitement that can be there on every hole!

Last, but not least, TwoShot is played with no handicaps involved. No handicaps; yet all participants at all levels of skill have a better chance of winning. Up to seven different divisions with players only competing against those in their own divisions with 33% plus ties of each division winning eliminates the perception “I can’t win against those sandbaggers”.
